''So quick bright things come to confusion''

Thu Mar 30, 2006, 8:21 AM
Thursday morning, 7:30am. Water's boiling for a fresh cup of coffee. I find I prefer the taste from a french press rather than the generic taste that comes from coffee machines. This is a recent change in preference.

Another sleepless night, but not one wasted. It's probably from all the things buzzing through my mind lately. Feeling different in ways I can't even begin to describe. So now here I sit while the early morning light starts creeping through the living room curtains, wearing my oversized Gogol Bordello hoodie and my cozy knit beenie. God it's cold.

Well, funny thing about this is that I recently decided to take a break from the internet consuming my life. That includes staying off of LJ, AIM, and myspace. All three are giantic wastes of my time these days. I still check my email and stuff though. I'm not in any way trying to cut ties with people, but just the actual act of my wasting time by sitting here. Point is, I don't go online very often now, and I'm being way more productive with my time.

ANYWAY, I'd given up drawing quite a while ago, but lately I've been motivated to.. practice, I guess. I'd given it up due to the frustrations of feeling inadequate. But then I have to remind myself that everyone is their own worst critic, and besides that, skill is relative as most things are. I think I may have pretty much given it up as a career choice, because it completely drained the fun out of it and me. However, I remember a time when I used to love drawing every chance I had. Since I can come to terms with the fact that I don't think I could use it professionally, I now have more of a desire to draw just for myself. Some things are better kept as hobbies I suppose. When it boils down to it I guess I just didn't have the ambition to see how far I could push myself and make something out of this. Oh well, live and learn.

Wow that was a tangent. The point I was trying to make is that since I wanna draw a lot more, I'm gonna want to post 'em up here. So I guess that means I have something to go online for after all that's actually productive. That's how I'm justifying my sitting here and writing an entry, anyway. Haha.

I'm always more inspired to draw when I expose myself to various things. Movies, books, comics, music, people. I know this is true with a lot of people, so I assume you(my imaginative audience) understand what I mean.

I recently saw V for Vendetta at the theater, which I absolutely loved. Loved to the point where I saw it a second time, and have plans to see it a third time with another friend who hasn't seen it. While I'm sure there are so many die hard fans out there, I'm sorry to say that I had never heard of it until the movie came out, so naturally I had no knowledge of the graphic novel. Well obviously as soon as I found out, I went right out and picked up a copy. Oh. My. God. So obsessed with this graphic novel; I've read it twice since I bought it last week. After reading it(and seeing it twice), I can now see where fans would be somewhat disappointed. But as a movie itself separate from the graphic novel, I still think it's fantastic. So what if it was simplified and twisted around for the general public? It worked for me. After reading how much more actually goes on in the comic though, it really leaves you wishing there could only have been more things present in the movie. But you gotta give 'em credit for the things they kept, such as direct quotes that were kept intact from the comic, and some scenes that seemed like panels of the comic brought to life on screen.

Even though I know it's really irresponsible on my part, I blew a nice chunk of money at Gamestop yesterday. Just my luck, the first time I go to the mall in a long time, and I find that Kingdom Hearts II was just released that very day. I paced all over Gamestop for a while, debating my moral dilemma. Eventually I mentally justified my impulsiveness by convincing myself that it would entertain me for weeks, and since I have all the time in the world lately, it would be well worth the investment.

.. yeah, after the fact, it doesn't sound as good an excuse as it felt at the time. HAha, anyway.. yay for guiltly pleasures; they're what keep us going sometimes. All that hoop-lah and I didn't even start a game when I came home! Probably won't have time until later tonight, though I predict I'll be too tired to even play then.

Along with the game, I bought The Professional starring Jean Reno and a very young Natalie Portman. I haven't seen that movie in so long, and I had forgotten how fucking GREAT it is. I believe it came out in '94? Anyway, if you've never seen it, I highly recommend it.

My current favorite song is Cry Me A River by Julie London. I've been listening to it everyday for almost two weeks now. Hasn't worn on me yet, so let's see how much longer until I get sick of it, hm?

That's all for now. Gotta get ready since I'll probably be out for a good chunk of the early day.
